Bitkom Transfer Impact Assessment Tool (BiTIAT)

The BiTIAT provides Bitkom members with a framework for conducting transfer impact assessments for international data transfers and also provides the necessary documentation. It standardizes the analysis of the third country and the respective data transfer. The software also suggests additional safeguards. Potential threats to relevant data protection objectives of the GDPR link the aforementioned components. The modeling of these threats is a central component of the standardization and automation provided.

The tool is designed for transfers to the following 5 countries:

  • USA
  • Brazil
  • India
  • Colombia
  • Australia

Extensions of the country profiles are planned. In addition, the English version of the tool is in progress. The concept paper on BiTIAT with explanations of how it works is available here (in German).
